Length (between the pegs) and weight for the Bengal tiger:
Note: In the 1870's a Bengal tiger shot in the Purnea district was measured at 12' 4" in length. This measurement was taken "around the curves" rather than "between the pegs" (nose to tail, as for the measurements in the table above). To get an accurate comparison of size you should subtract 7-8 inches from the size. Even allowing for this discrepancy, the tiger in question was a massive animal. | |||||||||||||||
